How to apply a total discount to a sale

Postby sami » Sat Nov 19, 2005 4:01 am

The new version of Retail Man now has the new feature of the ability to apply a percent discount to the total sale, to accomplish that, you have to create a service item / items (depending on the number of discount levels you need in your business), so if you decide there will be 3 discount levels of say 5%, 10% and 20%, then create 3 new service items, note that the system looks for the '%' character in the Part Number to decide if this is a discount, so do not use the '%' character in the part number except for discounts. To implement this, enter a -5%, and -10% and -20% as part numbers of the new items noting these part number are preceded with a negative sign to show its a discount, you can also add a surcharge by entering the above without the negative sign, so 5% will become a surcharge of 5%. Now to apply the discount, in either the POS screen or the invoice screen, you have to enter all the items you need to discount, then enter the discount code as the last item, the system will apply that discount on all items preceding the discount code, you can also modify the discount amount manually.

Sami

Besides %, can you share with us what other prefixes we cannot use as part numbers. I am in the process of tweaking my EXCEL part numbers so that it is easy to find in search screen.

Tks

The only 2 characters that are used by the system in a special way are the % and the Star *, the % has been explained above, while the * is mentioned in the user manual and the on-line help. It is used to denote a non stock item, so if you are selling or purchasing a non stock item, enter the * as the first character in the part number (can be followed by other characters). This will cause the system to prompt you to enter the item details, qty, price and tax.
